Chicken Pakora (Chicken Pokora) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g boneless chicken (cut into small bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • ¼ cup rice flour (for extra crispiness)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped, optional)
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda (for a light texture)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • ½ cup water (adjust as needed for batter consistency)
  • Handful of fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:
  1. Prepare the Chicken

    • Wash and pat dry the chicken pieces.
    • Marinate with ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, and salt. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Make the Batter

    • In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour, red chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, and baking soda.
    • Add the marinated chicken and mix well.
    • Add water gradually to form a thick, smooth batter that coats the chicken pieces.
    • Add chopped green chili and coriander leaves.
  3. Fry the Pakoras

    • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
    • Drop the battered chicken pieces one by one into the hot oil.
    • Fry in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 5-6 minutes).
    • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve Hot
